Collection: Dog Jackets & Coats

Winter coats, rain jackets, and life vests for dogs — sourced from liquidation inventory and customer returns. The collection covers cold-weather insulation, water-resistant outer shells, reversible designs, jackets with built-in harnesses, and flotation vests for swimming. Each item is condition-tagged after inspection in our Toronto warehouse. Sizing varies significantly between manufacturers, which is why every product page lists the actual chest-girth and back-length measurements rather than relying on the “small/medium/large” label alone.

Sizing a jacket for your dog

The two measurements that matter for a dog jacket are back length and chest girth. Back length is measured from the base of the neck (where a collar sits) to the base of the tail, with the dog standing on all four feet. Chest girth is measured around the widest part of the rib cage, just behind the front legs. Brands use different size charts, so a “medium” in one brand can fit a small dog in another. Each product page lists the manufacturer’s measurements in inches and centimetres; we keep both. If your dog is between sizes, size up — a slightly loose jacket is more comfortable than a tight one, especially over a winter undercoat. For breeds with a deep chest and narrow waist (terriers, dachshunds), the chest girth typically drives the size choice; for stockier breeds, back length is the limiting factor.

Jacket types in this collection

Winter coats use insulation (polyester fill or fleece lining) and a water-resistant or waterproof outer shell to keep snow and slush off the dog’s back and belly. Rain jackets prioritize water resistance over warmth and are intended for mild-to-cool temperatures during rain. Reversible jackets give you two looks in one piece — usually a brighter print on one side for visibility, and a neutral solid on the other. Built-in harness jackets have a D-ring or leash attachment integrated into the jacket so the dog wears one item instead of two; the harness is not always replaceable on its own, so check the construction if you plan to use a strong-pull leash. Life vests have foam panels in the belly and back and a top handle so you can lift the dog out of water, and are intended for swimming or boating, not for general wear or cold-weather use.

How long dog jackets typically last

A well-made winter dog coat lasts two to four winters for a medium-sized dog used three to five times a week. The most common failure point is the velcro belly closure, which collects fur and loses grip over time; some manufacturers offer replacement velcro patches. Zippers fail next, usually on the side opening rather than the main back zipper. Reflective trim degrades after about 200 wash cycles — not a structural problem but reduces the visibility benefit. Rain jackets last longer because they see less stress, but the water-resistant coating wears off with frequent washing. We list every jacket as machine-washable on cold with low or no tumble dry unless the manufacturer specifies hand-wash only.

Conditions and inspection

Each jacket is inspected for zipper function, velcro adhesion, seam integrity, harness D-ring strength, and absence of stains or pet odour. Brand New arrived sealed. Open-Box is a return that was unworn. Opened for Inspection means we unwrapped the jacket to confirm zipper and stitch integrity. We do not list jackets with broken zippers, fraying seams at stress points, or any sign of prior use such as fur, odour, mud staining, or stretched-out velcro.
